9/26/2025 12:09:00 PM

Four Hobart sailors will be on the water in Kings Point, New York this weekend, Sept. 27-28, to compete for the Carl Van Duyne Trophy, the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association Men's Singlehanded Championship.

Senior Nico Garcia-Castrillon, junior Jack Carter, junior TJ Allison and sophomore Dante Garcia will represent the Statesmen in this year's regatta. They qualified for the championship by virtue of their finishes at the Laser North earlier this month. Garcia-Castrillon led the way, finishing second overall. Carter and Allison finished fifth and seventh, respectively. Garcia, who finished tied for eighth, earned a last-minute invitation to the conference championship regatta.

Garcia-Castrillon, Carter and Garcia competed for the Van Duyne Trophy last year. Garcia-Castrillon finished 11th. He also finished 17th as a first-year. Carter is also competing at the Van Duyne Trophy for the third straight year. Garcia was 17th at the regatta last year.

Nick Sessions '24 captured the Carl Van Duyne Trophy in 2023. He went on to finish eighth at the ICSA Men's Singlehanded Championship.

Eighteen sailors from seven schools are scheduled to compete for the conference crown in Kings Point. The first place finisher will receive the league's automatic bid to the ICSA Men's Singlehanded Championship.

HWS will compete in two other regattas this weekend. The team heads to Throggs Neck for the New York Maritime Open. The Herons travel to Annapolis, Maryland, to race in the Women's ACC Eliminations hosted by Navy.
