Herons place 4th at Don Richards Invitational

GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College swimming and diving team wrapped up the 2021 portion of its schedule with a fourth place finish at the Don Richards Invitational hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology. The Herons produced 11 top 6 finishes in the two-day meet.
 
Individually, Tessa Yohan accounted for three top 6 finishes and helped two Heron relays finish in the top 5. She finished third in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:20.83. She was fifth in the 400 individual medley, hitting the wall in 5:01.79, and sixth in the 200 IM, stopping the clock at 2:19.6.
 
Yohan teamed up with Katie Mullin, Marlayna DiFante and Brooke Prochniak for a fourth place showing in the 200 freestyle relay, logging a time of 1:44.99. She also banded with Mullin, Kylie Rowland and Maggie Schlehlein for a fifth place finish in the 400 medley relay, posting a time of 4:19.81.
 
Mullin logged two individual top 6 efforts. She had a third place showing in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.96, just 0.13 seconds out of second place. Cecelia Ripley was sixth in the 100 back in a time of 1:03.8, just five hundredths out of fifth place. Mullin's other top 6 was a sixth place finish in the 500 free (5:32.67).
 
Diver Olympia Canales was fifth on the 3-meter board (287.2) and sixth on the 1-meter board (280.65).
 
Mullin, Schlehlein, Ripley and Prochniak finished sixth in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:52.36.
 
RIT won the meet by more than 500 points over second place Skidmore. Clarkson was third followed by William Smith, St. Lawrence and Bard.
 
The Herons will return to competition on Jan. 15, 2022, when they swim in the RPI Invitational.
