Herons face #4 Elmira this weekend

The William Smith College ice hockey team will face fourth-ranked Elmira College in a home-and-home series this weekend, Nov. 11-12. On Friday, William Smith will make the 50 mile trip to Pine Valley for a 6 p.m. faceoff at Elmira's Murray Athletic Center. On Saturday the teams will meet at The Cooler at 4 p.m.
 
The Herons are 3-0-1 overall and 2-0-0 in New England Hockey Conference play after defeating both Salem State and Southern Maine this past weekend. The Soaring Eagles are 3-0-0 overall and are 2-0-0 in NEHC play with wins over the Huskies and Vikings.
 
Coverage for Friday's game will be provided courtesy of athletics.elmira.edu. Fans unable to make it to The Cooler can follow the action with HWS All-Access and Live Stats. Saturday's game will also be broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva).
 
ABOUT THE HERONS:
  • Kayla Ketchabaw leads the team with five points on three goals and two assists.
  • Mia LaPlante is right behind her with four points, including a team-high three assists. Emily Cataldo also has three helpers.
  • Goaltenders Annie Hauser and Erin Murray have split time in net for the Herons. Hauser was named the NEHC Goalie of the Week following a shutout of Southern Maine. She has a 0.48 GAA and a .980 save percentage.
 
ABOUT THE SOARING EAGLES:
  • Claire Meeder leads the Soaring Eagles with six points on three goals and three assists.
  • Morgan Mordini (2g, 2a) and Holley Riva (2g, 2a) are right behind her with four points each.
  • Leonie-Louise Kuehberger has played a majority of the minutes in goal. She is 2-0-0 with a 1.00 GAA and a .938 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY:
  • This weekend's games will be the 17th and 18th meeting between Elmira and William Smith.
  • The Soaring Eagles lead the all-time series 14-1-1.
  • William Smith's lone win came on Feb. 16, 2020, at The Cooler. Julia Mings '21 scored the game-winning goal 30 seconds into overtime.
