Herons wrap up season at Liberty League Championship

VERONA, N.Y.—The William Smith golf team wrapped up its 2021-22 season at the 36-hole Liberty League Championship this weekend. The Herons finished sixth in the six-team field at the par 72 Kaluhyat Golf Course at Turning Stone Resort.
 
Senior Emma Nedeau carded William Smith's best round on both Saturday and Sunday. She shot a 95 in the opening round and improved seven shots in today's closing round, posting an 88. Nedeau finished 20th in a field of 31 golfers. Justine Burness was six shots back in 22nd place. She also made a seven-shot improvement from Saturday to Sunday. Ashley Byron placed 26th after making a six-shot improvement. Brooke Hogle was the fourth Heron in the clubhouse, improving nine shots and finishing 29th.
 
New York University (607) won the conference title by 49 shots over Wellesley (656). Ithaca (692) was third followed by Union (717), St. Lawrence (809) and William Smith (819). Aliea Clark was the individual medalist, finishing the weekend five over par. The Blue's Kate MacVicar was the runner-up, one shot back.
 
Nedeau finished the season with an 89.5 scoring average, the lowest by a Heron (minimum 10 rounds) since Lauren Carlson '11 averaged 86.6 in 2010-11. Nedeau's career average of 92.46, is fourth best among William Smith players with at least 30 rounds. Nedeau holds the program record for lowest 18-hole score (77, 2nd round at St. Lawrence) and lowest 36-hole tournament (155 at St. Lawrence).
