Box Score CANTON, N.Y.- The Hobart College tennis team opened its season at the St. Lawrence Classic this weekend with major wins against strong competition. Junior Sean Pesin captured the Singles "B" Flight crown after defeating first-year teammate, Nick Fischer in the finals. The pairing of sophomore Troy Steiner and senior Harry Lyu captured the Doubles "A" Flight crown after defeating Anderson and Gunningham from Hamilton College.
 
Flight "B" Singles:

• Steiner opened with a win over Lorenzo Gunningham (HAM) by a score of 8-2 before falling in the second round to Adam Heilbronnel (SLU)  8-6.
• Fischer opened with a 8-2 win over Brian Bork (RIT) followed by another win over Siddharth Tirupati (ROC) 8-5. Fischer continued with a semifinal win over Eric Stein (HAM) by a score of 8-7 with a 9-7 tie breaker win. Fischer then fell in the finals to teammate Pesin by a score of 8-7 after falling in the tie breaker 7-0.
• On his road to being crowned Flight "B" Singles champion, Pesin defeated Siddharth Reddy Vaada (ITH) 8-2, Kavin Shukla (ROC) 8-3, Adam Heilbronnel (SLU) 8-6 and Nick Fischer (HOB) 8-7 (7-0).

Flight "C" Singles:

• Senior Jett Wright opened the SLU Classic with a win over Rahul Ravi (ROC) by a score of 8-4. Wright then fell in a thriller to Dimitris Binopoulos (UC) 8-7 with the tiebreaker going to Binopoulos 11-9.
• Senior Guthrie Speers opened with a first-round win over JG Hill Edgar (SLU) 8-4. Speers continued to roll in round two with a win over Mark Aspey (HAM) 8-5 before falling in the semifinals to Nicolas Gritz (HAM) 8-7 with the tiebreaker going to Gritz 7-5.

Flight "D" Singles:

• Sophomore Rahul Vallabhajosula started off strong with an 8-2 win over Ethan Chin (HAM) before falling to Alex Kulvivat (ROC) 8-1

Flight "A" Doubles:

• The pairing of Wright and Pesin started off with a first-round win over Wachs and Raddy Vaada (ITH) by a score of 8-3. The Statesmen then fell to Flight "B" Doubles runner up Anderson and Gunningham (HAM) by a score of 8-4.
• On the road to being crowned Flight "A" Doubles champions, the pairing of Troy Steiner and Harry Lyu defeated Stein and Bartok (HAM) 8-3, Vennam and Ravi (ROC) 8-3, Binopoulos and Shunk (UC) 8-4, and finally Anderson and Gunningham (HAM) 8-4 in the finals.

COACHES CORNER:
 
"I thought we learned a lot from our performances at the tournament," Head Coach Tim Riskie said. "Harry and Troy played some awesome tennis to win Flight "A" doubles for the second straight year. Pesin was a late addition to singles, but played well to win the "B" Flight.  Im really proud of how everyone competed and conducted themselves throughout the tournament."
