Statesmen capture first win of the season at Fredonia

FREDONIA, N.Y - The Hobart College swimming and diving team was back in action this afternoon against Fredonia State University at the Steele Hall Natatorium in Fredonia, N.Y. The Statesmen earned their first win of the season, defeating the Blue Devils 125-65, taking first place in nine events. 

First-year Christopher Woody led the team this afternoon, posting three first-place finishes. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Woody posted a time of 1:03.59. He followed that up with a first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:29.30 and the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:16.28.
 
First-year Nate Dwyer took first-place in two events at Fredonia this afternoon. Dwyer placed first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:12.09 and the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.29. Additionally, Dwyer joined Holton Frank, Randall Domingues and Woody as they took first-place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:02.07.

Sophomore Daniel Barrientos continued to shine for the Statesmen as he took first-place in two events this afternoon. He finished first from both the 3-meter diving board with a score of 238.00 and the 1-meter diving board with a score of 280.50. Barrientos was joined by Frank, Tillman Washington and Rupert Ramsay in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The Statesmen relay team took first-place with a time of 1:54.88.

"I'm incredibly proud of these guys and my entire staff for getting the team ready for today," said Head Coach R.C. Weston. "Chris Woody had a fantastic meet and our 3 Divers, Danny, Tillman, and Rupert got us some crucial points on the boards. Today was just a huge team win for the program and for this season."
 
UP NEXT:
 
Hobart will be back in action next weekend at home for homecoming and family weekend when it takes on Roberts Wesleyan University and Wells College Saturday, Oct. 28. The meet is set to start at 11 a.m.
