GENEVA, N.Y –The William Smith College swimming and diving team collected its first win of the season as it defeated Fredonia in Bristol Pool this afternoon. The Herons defeated the Blue Devils 199-33 for the first win of the Head Coach Elizabeth Bernardy era. William Smith touched the wall first in all 12 events.
Sophomore Mackenzie Morus shined for the Herons, winning two individual freestyle events. She streaked to first place finishes in the 200-yard IM, stopping the clock at 2:24.85, and the 500-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 5:38.92. Morus picked up a third victory, swimming the third leg of the 400-yard free relay.
First-year Amalia Olivieri kept the top finishes rolling for the Herons, factoring into two individual victories. She won the 50-yard free (27.36) and the 100-yard free (59.92).
On the diving board, first-year Hannah Walsh led the Herons with first place finishes on the 1-meter board (178.25) and the 3-meter board (171.80).
Graduate student Clare Burke led William Smith to a steady lead with a win in the first event. She finished first in the 1000-yard freestyle, clocking in at 12:16.45. Burke was also part of the winning 400-yard free relay along with junior Lea Emanuel and senior Tessa Yohan. Additionally, Yohan added a victory in the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.04).
First-year Kaleigh Boynton finished first in the 200-yard free (2:09.98), while classmate Boglarka Olah took the victory in the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.18). First-year Jenna Flihan added a first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.63).

The Herons will be back in action next Saturday, Oct. 26, when it welcomes Robert Wesleyan to Geneva. Action between the Herons and the Red Hawks is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. in Bristol Pool.
