The William Smith bowling team competed in two tournaments this past weekend, winning the Br. Pat Lacey Memorial Tournament and placing third in the Unicorn Classic.

The Lacey Memorial was a one-day traditional match tournament hosted by Saint Vincent on Saturday. The Herons went 4-1 in competition, but only officially earned two victories because two of their matches were against Muskingum, which is not an NCAA program.

The Herons opened the weekend with a 1018-961 victory over the Fighting Muskies. Officially just an exhibition match, the 1,018 pins are the most for William Smith in a match in the program's history. Senior
Michaela Morgan led the way with a 242-game, which would be the second highest game in program history if it was during an official match. First-year
Brooke Gervais added a 236, which would be the third highest score. Sophomore
Colleen Jump gave the Herons a third 200-game with a 214.

After going 3-1 in round robin play, William Smith was matched up against Muskingum in the tournament's first place match. The Herons prevailed again, this time by a 914-742 count.

Gervais led William Smith with three 200 games for a 207.0 average, second among the tournament's 71 competitors. Morgan just missed a spot in the top five, finishing sixth with a 190.2 average.

On Sunday, the Herons competed in the Unicorn Classic hosted by La Roche, which featured Baker matches. William Smith went 3-2 and based on their win over D'Youville, placed third in the tournament.

The Herons' three victories included a 15-pin victory over conference rival Saint Vincent. The Bearcats were ranked No. 6 in the National Ten-pin Coaches Association preseason Division II/III poll. William Smith was ranked No. 7.

The Herons (14-14) will be back in action Nov. 16-17, when they host the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Round Robin No. 1. The league's eight-teams will converge on Sunset Bowl for seven traditional matches.

Following the AMCC Round Robin No. 2 in February, the top six teams will compete in the AMCC Championship in Pittsburgh in March. William Smith earned a share of the 2023 AMCC regular season championship and captured its first AMCC tournament crown.
