ITHACA, N.Y. – The Hobart and William Smith swimming and diving teams competed in the fourth and final day of the Liberty League Championships on Saturday in the Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium. Saturday's events were highlighted by five individual performances and three relay teams from the Statesmen and Herons. The Statesmen finished in eighth place with 240 points, while the Herons finished in ninth with 296 points.
In the 200-yard backstroke William Smith had one swimmer advance to the finals. First-year Jayne Pearson finished 22nd overall, stopping the clock at 2:18.07 to secure a spot in the C final.
Hobart first-year Christopher Woody advanced to the C final in the 200 backstroke, finishing 24th with a time of 2:23.32.
The Statesmen 400 relay team earned a spot in the A final. Woody was joined by first-year Nate Dwyer, sophomore Jameson Ardis, and sophomore Randall Dominguez in the event.
The Herons had two teams to advance to the 400 relay finals. After finishing 14th in the morning prelims, sophomore Lea Emmanuel, Morus, Burke, and Pearson clocked in at 3:39.70, earning themselves a place in the B level finals. The second Heron team qualified for the C level finals after finishing 17th overall. The B relay team was made up of sophomores Maggie Woodruff, Hali Seidberg, Abby Hark, and Kelsey Barrows.
FINALS RESULTS
Three Herons advanced to the 1650-yard freestyle finals after the morning prelims. William Smith was led by first-year Mackenzie Morus, who clocked 19:06.87, placing 22nd overall.
Pearson also represented the Herons in the 200 backstroke C final. Her time of 2:20.62 landed her 24th place in the event.
Woody raced for the Statesmen in the 200 backstroke C final. He finished 24th overall with a time of 2:23.00.
The Statesmen 400 relay squad finished 9th overall in the A final. The group was made up of Dwyer, Ardis, Woody, and Dominguez.
In the 400 relay, the Herons relay team finished 24th overall, racing in the C final. Woodruff, Seidberg, Hark, and Barrows improved their final time from the prelims, finishing in 3:59.95.
