Herons conclude homestand against Vikings

The William Smith hockey team will wrap up its three-game homestand this weekend Jan. 10-11, when it welcomes Salem State to The Cooler for a pair of New England Hockey Conference contests. Friday's game will start at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the opening faceoff is at 4 p.m.
 
The Herons are looking to bounce back from a 3-0 loss to Hamilton on Tuesday. Senior Erin Murray had a career-high 46 saves and became the third goalie in program history to record her 1000th career save.
 
Salem State is coming off a 2-0 win over Anna Maria on Tuesday.  Cassandra Valentine made 33 saves in the shutout.

ABOUT THE HERONS (3-8-1, 3-3-0)
  • William Smith is currently sixth in the league standings with 10 points.
  • Senior Lauren Legler leads the Herons with five assists and six points.
  • Senior Kayla Ketchabaw has three goals.
  • First-year Bella Hacker is 13th in the nation with two game-winning goals.
  • Senior Erin Murray has played the majority of minutes in goal for William Smith. She has a 1.74 GAA and a .936 save percentage.  
 
ABOUT THE VIKINGS (4-9-0, 0-6-0)
  • Salem State is tied for 10th in the conference.
  • Hallee Greenleaf and Lexi Warner lead the Vikings with six points each. Greenleaf has a team-high four goals and Warner has six assists.
  • Delaney Cox and Samantha Jaworski have split time in goal. Jawaorski has a 2.97 GAA and a .897 save percentage. Cox has a 3.74 GAA and a .910 save percentage.  
 
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • This weekend will be the seventh and eighth meeting between the Herons and the Vikings.
  • William Smith leads the all-time series 6-0-0, including a mark of 3-0-0 at The Cooler.
  • Last year, the Herons outscored the Vikings 9-0 in the two meetings. Kelly Howe scored in both games and Kayla Ketchabaw had a goal and two assists last season.
