Fontana, Beaver snag SUNYAC praise

Hobart #1 for 34th consecutive poll

11/17/2025 2:15:00 PM

Two members of the Hobart hockey team were honored by the SUNYAC office this afternoon following the Statesmen's 2-0-0 start to conference play. Senior Kahlil Fontana was named the Men's Hockey Athlete of the Week and senior Damon Beaver was tabbed the Goaltender of the Week.

In addition, Hobart held on to the top spot in the USCHO.com poll. The Statesmen received 19 first place votes and remained No. 1 for the 34th consecutive poll.

Hobart began SUNYAC play this past weekend, knocking off Skidmore 6-1 and Plattsburgh 3-0 at The Cooler. With the two wins, the Statesmen are 6-0-0 on the season and 2-0-0 in conference play.

Fontana led Hobart, recording five goals on the weekend. The native of Duncan, British Columbia, matched a Hobart single-game record with four goals against the Thoroughbreds. He opened the scoring in the first period on Friday night. Fontana then recorded a natural hat trick as the Statesmen expanded the lead to four goals with less than four minutes remaining in regulation. It was Fontana's third career hat trick. On Saturday, Fontana scored against the Cardinals. Through six games, Fontana leads the team with eight goals and nine points.

In his first start in SUNYAC play, Beaver played all 60 minutes against Plattsburgh, recording 22 saves as he earned his first shutout of the season. Fifteen of his saves came in the first 40 minutes while it was a one-goal game. Beaver has played in four games this season. He is 4-0-0 with a 0.94 GAA and a. 964 save percentage.

Beaver, who already holds the Hobart career record for shutouts, notched the 20th shutout of his career. He is just the fourth goalie in NCAA Division III history to have 20-plus shutouts.

The Statesmen will be back in action this weekend, Nov. 21-22, when they head to the North Country to begin a four-game road trip. Hobart will take on Potsdam on Friday at 7 p.m. and Canton on Saturday at 4 p.m.
