Hovsepyan named SUNYAC Athlete of the Week

12/15/2025 4:17:00 PM

Hobart sophomore forward Arvega Hovsepyan was named the SUNYAC Men's Hockey Athlete of the Week by the conference office today. It's the second time this season he has earned this award.

The Statesmen are coming off an 8-1 non-conference win over Manhattanville over the weekend. Hobart closed out 2025 with a perfect 11-0-0 record and is the only remaining unbeaten and untied team in the country. The Statesmen are first in the nation in winning percentage (1.000) and second in scoring margin (3.73), power-play percentage (.350) and scoring offense (5.18). Hobart is third in scoring defense (1.45) and 12th in penalty killing percentage (.897).

Hovsepyan earned his second career SUNYAC Men's Hockey Offensive Athlete of the Week award after a dominant performance against the Valiants. He led the Statesmen with his first collegiate hat trick as Hobart scored the last six goals of the game. Hovsepyan scored his first goal of the game as he snapped a shot into the back of the net off a pass from Ignat Belov. He then tallied his second goal of the game four minutes later after slamming a cross-crease pass from Kahlil Fontana past the Valiant goalie. Hovsepyan completed his hat trick nine minutes into the third period after beating his defender one on one and wristing home his sixth goal of the year.

The forward from Los Angeles, California, leads Hobart with 16 points on six goals, including one game-winning goal, and a team-high 10 assists. Hovsepyan leads the SUNYAC in points with 16 and assists with 10. He also ranks third in the conference in plus-minus (+12) through 11 games.

Hobart will be back in action Jan. 3, when it travels to Middlebury, Vermont, for a non-conference showdown with Middlebury (4-2-2). Action between the Statesmen and the Panthers, who are receiving votes in last week's poll, is set for 2 p.m. in Chip Kenyon '85 Arena.
