ITHACA, N.Y.—The Hobart swimming and diving team competed at the 14th annual Bomber Invitational over the weekend. The Statesmen put together several impressive performances at the three-day meet but ultimately finished sixth in the team standings with 552 points.
THURSDAY RECAP:
Hobart opened the three-day meet with another standout performance on the diving boards from senior diver
Daniel Barrientos. Barrientos finished second overall from the 3-meter board, securing an NCAA regional qualifying score of 504.90. It is the fourth straight season Barrientos has qualified for the NCAA diving regionals.
In the 200-yard Individual Medley, junior
Christopher Woody led the Statesmen with a 16th place finish in the finals after touching the wall at 2:10.98. It was a personal best for Woody. First-year
Joseph Thompson, junior
Holton Frank and senior
Linden Utz all posted personal bests, qualifying for the finals as well for Hobart. Thompson finished 21st overall with a time of 2:19.69, while Frank finished 22nd after stopping the clock at 2:29.22. Utz finished closely behind in 23rd with a time of 2:42.47.
FRIDAY RECAP:
Friday's action was highlighted by a 15th place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke by Woody. He touched the wall at 1:02.42 to lead the Statesmen.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Thompson continued to impress with a 25th place finish after posting a personal best time of 59.64.
First-year
Caleb Halpine and Utz put on impressive performances in the 100-yard backstroke, both securing personal best times. Halpine touched the wall at 1:01.83 to claim 16th place, while Utz stopped the clock at 1:11.72 to finish 19th overall.
From the diving boards, first-year
Steven Nolte and sophomore
Endry Paulino Lora produced personal best scores for Hobart. Nolte finished 10th from the 1-meter board with a score of 192.95, while Paulino Lora followed closely behind in 11th with a score of 135.35.
SATURDAY RECAP:
The final day of action saw sophomore
Gerard Humiston finish 21st in the 100-yard freestyle after touching the wall at 51.71. In the 200-yard breaststroke, first-year
Sebastian Iancu and Woody both qualified for the finals after solid performances in the prelims that saw both swimmers record personal bests. Woody secured 18th place with a time of 2:22.43, while Iancu finished 23rd after touching the wall at 2:44.58.
Thompson continued to shine for the Statesmen as he produced another personal best, this time in the 200-yard butterfly. He finished 11th in the event after stopping the clock at 2:18.74 in the prelims and 2:21.14 in the finals.
UP NEXT:
Hobart will be back in action Jan. 17, when it travels to Troy, New York for the annual Kumpf Invitational hosted by RPI. Action is set to start at 1 p.m.
