Heron Bowlers earn academic acclaim

William Smith bowling was one of 49 teams in the country to earn 2024-25 All-Academic Scholar Team recognition from the National Tenpin Coaches Association. Additionally, three Herons—Colleen Jump '27, Sarah Shoobe '28 and Tiana Wolkiewicz '27—were honored as NTCA All-Academic Scholar-Athletes.
 
To qualify for the NTCA All-Academic Scholar Team award, programs must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher during the 2024-25 academic year. William Smith, which just completed its third varsity season, compiled a 3.31 team GPA.
 
To earn All-Academic Scholar-Athlete accolades, bowlers must have a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher during the 2024-25 academic year. In total, 397 student-athletes representing 66 NCAA bowling teams were celebrated for their excellence in the classroom while competing on the lanes.
 
A mathematics and education major, Jump is a two-time NTCA All-Academic Scholar-Athlete. She is also a two-time Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Academic All-Conference honoree. Jump was second on the team in pins per frame (17.6) and strikes (250) this season. She led the AMCC in split leave percentage (6.7%) and ranked in the top 10 in split conversion percentage (6th, 16.7), spare conversion percentage (7th, 65.9), fill percentage (8th, 78.3) and strike percentage (9th, 36.5). The two-time All-AMCC selection was the 2023-24 NTCA Division III Rookie of the Year.
 
A mathematics and education major, Shoobe is a two-sport athlete, competing for the William Smith soccer development team in the fall. She also earned AMCC Academic All-Conference honors this year. Shoobe played in 21% of the team's frames, averaging 13.96 pins per frame with 38 strikes.
 
A religious studies major, Wolkiewicz earned her first NTCA All-Academic Scholar-Athlete award and is a two-time AMCC Academic All-Conference pick. She averaged 16.56 pins per frame with 180 strikes this season. Wolkiewicz excelled in Baker format matches, ranking third in the AMCC with a first frame strike percentage of 34.0%.
 
William Smith was 40-44 this season. The defending AMCC champions advanced to the conference championship match for the second straight season, finishing as the runner-up.
