ITHACA, N.Y. – The Hobart and William Smith swimming & diving teams concluded action on Day 2 of the Liberty League Championships this evening. After several strong showings from both the Statesmen and the Herons, both Hobart and William Smith sit in ninth in the team standings after two days of competition.
On the men's side, the Statesmen were led by first-year
Joseph Thompson's impressive showing in the 100-yard butterfly. Thompson swam to a time of 58.40 in the preliminary rounds, securing a spot in the "C" finals. In the evening's finals event, he swam to a 24th place finish after touching the wall at 58.26.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, two Hobart teams qualified for the finals after putting together strong performances in the prelims. Hobart's "A" relay team made up of sophomore

Caleb Halpine and sophomore
Payton Owens secured a spot in the Heat 3 final after securing a time of 1:35.50 in the prelims. They went on to finish ninth in the finals with a time of 1:36.56.
On the women's side, junior
Mackenzie Morus led the Herons for the second straight day. Morus clinched a spot in the women's 400-yard individual medley "B" final after touching the wall at 4:51.89 in the prelims. She went on to finish second in the "B" finals, securing a 10th place finish with a time of 4:48.83.
In the women's 200-yard freestyle, William Smith produced two finalists and one alternate for the evening finals. Senior
Lea Doufekias Emanuel touched the wall at 2:03.64 in the prelims, securing a spot in the "C" finals. First-year
Amalia Olivieri also secured a spot in the "C" finals after stopping the clock at 2:06.92 in the prelims. Senior
Marguerite Woodruff was named an alternate for the evening finals after touching the wall at 2:07.46 in the prelims. In the "C" finals, Doufekias Emanuel swam to a 22nd place finish with a time of 2:03.36, while Olivieri finished in 24th with a time of 2:05.42.

Lark Sallade continued to impress for the Herons, securing a spot in the 100-yard butterfly "C" finals after stopping the clock at 1:03.35 in the prelims. Senior
Hali Seidberg and sophomore
Boglarka Olah were named alternatives for the finals after strong preliminary showings. In the "C" finals, Sallade swam to a 19th place finish after touching the wall at 1:01.84. Seidberg ended up racing in the finals event and finished 23rd with a time of 1:03.77.
In the women's 200-yard freestyle relay, William Smith's "A" relay team of Olivieri, Morus, Doufekias Emanuel and first-year
Keelyn Brink secured a spot in the Heat 2 finals after stopping the clock at 1:44.54 in the prelims. The Herons went on to finish eighth in the "B" finals with a combined time of 1:42.57. William Smith's "B" relay team of Sallade, sophomore
Aurora Donta-Venman, Woodruff and sophomore
Jenna Flihan finished in 23rd with a time of 1:46.91.
From the 1-meter diving board, sophomore
Fiona Garfield finished in 13th in the preliminary rounds with a score of 344.65. Senior
Haley Levine followed closely behind in 16th with a score of 295.10.

The Statesmen and the Herons will participate in Day 3 of the Liberty League Championships tomorrow in the Kelsey Partridge Natatorium. Action will begin at 10 a.m. in the prelims and will cover the 200-yard Medley Relay, 200-yard butterfly, 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard breaststroke, men's 1-meter diving, and the 800-yard freestyle relay.
