Barrientos finishes 3rd on 1-meter board at Liberty League Championships

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Hobart and William Smith swimming & diving teams concluded action on Day 3 of the Liberty League Championships with several strong performances from both the Statesmen and the Herons. After three days of competition, Hobart sits in eighth place in the team standings with 234 points, while William Smith sits in seventh with 312 points.
 
On the men's side, senior diver Daniel Barrientos led the Statesmen with a third-place finish from the 1-meter board. In the preliminary rounds, Barrientos earned an 11-dive score of 527.40, just .10 behind first place finisher Luke Albanese from RIT. Sophomore Endry Paulino Lora earned a personal-best score of 211.35 in the prelims, securing 14th place. Barrientos then went on to score a 512.45 in the six-dive 1-meter finals to secure the third-place finish.
 
Hobart's "A" relay team of sophomores Payton Owens and Gerard Humiston as well as first-year Joseph Thompson and junior Holton Frank qualified for the Heat 2 finals of the men's 800-yard freestyle relay after stopping the clock at 8:24.93 in the prelims. In the evening finals, the Statesmen raced to a 10th place finish after securing a time of 8:21.97.
 
In the men's 200-yard medley relay, Hobart's "A" relay team of first-year Caleb Halpine, Humiston, Thompson and senior Randall Dominguez finished in ninth place after stopping the clock at 1:47.50.
 
On the women's side, William Smith produced two "B" finals swimmers in the women's 200-yard butterfly. Junior Mackenzie Morus continued to shine for the Herons, securing a spot in the "B" finals with a prelim time of 2:22.38, while senior Hali Seiberg also qualified with a time of 2:25.74. In the finals, Morus swam to a 10th place finish with a time of 2:18.99, while Seidberg added a 15th place finish and a time of 2:22.86.
 
Two Herons also qualified for the "B" finals in the women's 100-yard breaststroke. First-year Lark Sallade qualified for the "B" finals with a prelim time of 1:11.02, while sophomore Kaleigh Boynton touched the wall at 1:11.09 to secure a spot in the finals. In the same event, sophomore Jenna Flihan swam to a time of 1:14.84 to secure a spot in the "C" finals. In the evening session, Sallade secured 11th place with a time of 1:10.28, while Boynton added a 12th place finish with a time of 1:10.52. Flihan secured 22nd place after touching the wall at 1:14.37.
 
In the women's 100-yard backstroke, sophomore Boglarka Olah and first-year Sofia Ciereck secured spots in the "C" final after two impressive performances. Olah touched the wall at 1:02.93, while Ciereck stopped the clock at 1:05.55 to clinch a spot in the finals. Senior Lea Doufekias Emanuel was named an alternate for the 100-yard backstroke after clocking in at 1:06.19 in the prelims. In the finals, Olah swam to a 20th place finish with a time of 1:02.91, while Ciereck finished 23rd after touching the wall at 1:04.78.
 
In relay action, the Herons "A" relay team of Morus, Doufekias Emanuel, sophomore Sadie Levy and senior Marguerite Woodruff, secured a spot in the women's 800-yard freestyle relay Heat 4 finals after swimming to a time of 8:27.94 in the prelims. William Smith went on to finish eighth in the finals with a time of 8:21.20. The Herons "B" relay team of Boynton, Flihan. Sophomore Aurora Donta-Venman and junior Emma Haher secured 23rd place in the finals after touching the wall at 8:39.14.
 
In the women's 200-yard medley relay, William Smith's "A" relay team made up of Olah, Boynton, Sallade and sophomore Amalia Olivieri secured a spot in the Heat 4 finals after clocking in at 1:56.87 in the prelims. The "B" relay team of Ciereck, Flihan, Seidberg and first-year Keelyn Brink, earned a spot in the Heat 1 finals of the same event after touching the wall at 2:01.21 in the prelims. The "A" relay team finished seventh in the finals with a time of 1:54.28, while the "B" relay team finished 23rd after touching the wall at 1:58.86.

"It was a fierce competition on the boards and in the pool today but it proved how strong and capable our athletes are," said Head Coach Elizabeth Bernardy and Diving Coach Eliana Wallock. "With our Herons sitting in seventh we are ready to take on the final day with everything we've got! We're excited to see what we can do with one day left!

The Statesmen and the Herons will participate in the final day of the Liberty League Championships tomorrow in the Kelsey Partridge Natatorium. Action will begin at 10 a.m. in the prelims and will cover the 1650-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 200-yard breaststroke, women's 3-meter diving, and the 400-yard freestyle relay.
