Two members of the Hobart and William Smith swimming and diving teams will continue their seasons as they compete this weekend, Feb. 27-28, at the 2026 NCAA Diving Regional Championships. Senior
Daniel Barrientos and sophomore
Fiona Garfield qualified to represent HWS this weekend.
Â
This year's Regional will be held at RIT's Judson Pool in Henrietta, New York. Action will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday with Barrientos competing in 3-meter diving and Garfield in 1-meter diving. Saturday's competition will begin at noon with men's 1-meter diving and women's 3-meter diving. On the women's side, 29 divers will compete this weekend with the top seven qualifying for the NCAA National Championships at Deaconess Aquatic Center in Evansville, Indiana. On the men's side, 12 divers will compete for four spots at the National Championships.
Â
Barrientos enters the weekend seeded first in Division III on the 3-meter board (11 dives) and is hoping to secure his spot in the NCAA Diving Championships for the second straight season. His record-breaking performance at this year's Liberty League Championship was highlighted by an 11-dive score of 608.25 from the 3-meter board which shattered the Hobart program record, the Ithaca pool record, the Liberty League Championship record and the Association record. In addition, Barrientos went on to win his first Liberty League title with a six-dive score of 630.10. On the 1-meter board, he placed third with a score of 512.45 to wrap up the conference championships.
Â
At last year's NCAA diving regionals, Barrientos secured fifth place from the 3-meter board and fourth place from the 1-meter board to punch his ticket to the NCAA National Championships for the first time in his career, becoming the first Statesman diver to qualify for the national championships since Peter Taylor '92 in 1992.
Â
Garfield qualified for the NCAA diving regionals for the first time in her career this season. She led the Herons at the Liberty League Championships with an eighth-place finish in the 3-meter diving final. She also broke the William Smith record with her score of 425.65 in the 11-dive prelims.
