Herons take 3rd in ROC City Classic

ROCHESTER, N.Y.—The William Smith bowling team finished third in the ROC City Classic hosted by Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday. Senior Caitlyn Anschutz led the Herons, earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team with the second highest average of the tournament.
 
The ROC City Classic was decided by total pinfall after teams played four head-to-head matches and one blind match. The host Redhawks took the title with 4,215 total pins. Daemen was second with 4,153, 24 more pins than the Herons. Penn State Behrend and D'Youville rounded out the field.
 
Anschutz averaged 185.2 in five games, trailing only Roberts' Abigail Barnard (195.6). Anschutz opened the day with 220 in William Smith's blind match. It was the highest game of the day by a Heron.

First-year Natalie Yale led the Herons to victory in their first head-to-head match of the tournament. She bowled a 189 as William Smith bested AMCC rival Penn State Behrend by two pins. The Herons followed that with a 40-pin win over the Redhawks paced by Anschutz's 177. She also produced William Smith's high games against the Saints (193) and the Wildcats (176).
 
The win over the Redhawks was the Herons' 51st of the season, breaking the program record for wins in a season set by the 2023-24 team that won the AMCC Championship and competed in the NCAA tournament.

The ROC City Classic was William Smith's fine tuneup before competing in the 2026 AMCC Championship March 20-22 in Pittsburgh. The Herons (51-30) are the tournament's No. 2 seed and will face either No. 3 Alvernia or No. 6 Pitt-Bradford in the second round.
