Sailing heads to MAISA Women’s Team Race Championship

The William Smith sailing team will be back in action this weekend, April 11-12 when it travels to Washington, D.C., to compete in the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association Women's Team Race Championship.
 
Sophomores Deana Fedulova, Sabrina Starck and Lauren Campbell, and first-year Moira Padilla Velasquez will sail as skippers in the MAISA Women's Team Race. Along with them will be juniors Ella Donaldson and Reilly Roedel, sophomore Olivia Wilkins, and first-year Keelyn Brink sailing as crew. The Herons will face Navy, Georgetown, St. Mary's College of Maryland, George Washington, Old Dominion, UPenn, Fordham, and Cornell.
 
At last year's MAISA Women's Team Race, William Smith placed third with a 14-7 overall record. Starck, Fedulova, Donaldson and Wilkins all competed in last year's regatta.
 
HWS will also be in Annapolis, Maryland, for the Truxtun Umstead regatta. Navy will host the regatta this year. HWS will face Boston University, Cornell, Eckerd, Fordham, George Washington, Georgetown, Jacksonville, Northeastern, Old Dominion, San Diego State, St. Mary's,Tulane, Coast Guard, Navy, UMiami, UPenn, and Webb Institute.
 
HWS finished in 10th place with 261 points at last year's Truxton Umstead. Seniors Nico Garcia-Castrillon and Valyn Mogensen placed eighth in A Division while sophomore Kenelm Guinness, Roedel, and sophomore Sam Carson sailed in B Division, finishing 12th.
