Three members of the William Smith soccer team were honored by the Liberty League following their performances in William Smith's 2-1 win over 21st-ranked Carnegie Mellon on Sunday. First-year Grace Sudbay was named the Rookie of the Week. In addition, seniors Charlotte Brown and Antonia Goerke were named to the weekly honor roll.
 
Sudbay opened the scoring for the Herons against the Tartans with her first collegiate goal. She intercepted a clearing pass, stepped to the top of the penalty arc and fired a shot on goal. The ball deflected off a defender, hit the left goal post and ricocheted into the net. Sudbay has started three of William Smith's four games this season. She has three points on a goal and an assist.
 
Brown scored the game-winning goal against Carnegie Mellon in the 51st minute. She one-timed a crossing pass from junior Grace Metzler that hit the crossbar and dropped down over the goal line. It was Brown's second goal of the season. She is tied for the team lead in goals and points.
 
Goerke started and played all 90 minutes in goal for the Herons on Sunday. She made a career-high nine saves, earning her second victory of the season. Seven of Goerke's nine saves came in the final 45 minutes as the Tartans pushed for the equalizer. Goerke is 2-1-0 on the season with a 1.60 GAA and an .800 save percentage.
 
William Smith (3-1-0) will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 16, when it begins a six-game road trip against Geneseo. The game is set to begin at 6 p.m.
