Herons swim past Wildcats, 132.5-72.5

GENEVA, N.Y.--The William Smith swimming & diving team defeated visiting Cazenovia 132.5-72.5 in Bristol Pool this afternoon. The Herons won eight of the meet's 13 events, including four that saw William Smith take each of the top three places.

Lynn Cutter and Jessica Cook both picked up two individual victories apiece for the home team.

Cutter, swimming in her final home meet, got off to a fast start, teaming with Alisha Rexford, Erin Houck, and Lindsay Simonson to win the 400-yard medley relay in 4:27.76. Cutter went on to lead Heron sweeps in the 200 free (2:02.13) and the 500 free (5:31.87).

Cook also led 1-2-3 finishes by William Smith in the 200 individual medley (2:27.39) and the 200 backstroke (2:25.06). She could have earned a third individual victory with her time in the 200 breaststroke, but William Smith had the meet well in hand by that point and Cook swam as an exhibition entry.

Alexandra Donovan, also making her final appearance in Bristol Pool, and Caitlin O'Brien claimed the top two spots in the 1,000 free. Donovan's winning time was 11:58.69.

In addition to her relay victory, Houck won the 100 free (57.30) and placed second in the 200 free.

Mamme Daley posted a time of 2:35.52 to win the 200 butterfly.

Diver Anna Layton was a double winner for the Wildcats, posting superior scores on both the 1- and 3-meter boards.

The Herons, who are 4-3 in dual meets this season, are back in action on Feb. 7, when they will compete in the Skidmore Invitational.
