Carlson matches personal best at St. Lawrence Invite

CANTON, N.Y.—
William Smith senior golfer Lauren Carlson matched her personal best score for 18 holes in the final round of the St. Lawrence Invitational. She fired an 83 today to finish 15th in the 44-golfer field, leading the Herons to a seventh place finish.

At the par 72 St. Lawrence Golf Club, Carlson carded an 88 in Saturday's opening round before bouncing back with an 83 for the second time in her collegiate career. She also shot an 83 in the second round of the 2009 Nazareth Invitational.

Senior Katrina Carey posted back-to-back rounds of 94 to tie for 26th place. Sophomore Trilbey Smith tied for 33rd place, while first-years Lisa Vialle and Brynna Trumpetto were 39th and 41st, respectively.

The host Saints won the tournament with a score of 633 (+57), 10 strokes better than NYU. Middlebury, Cortland, Ithaca, and St. John Fisher rounded out the top six. With a team score of 780, William Smith was 17 strokes better than Elmira and 72 ahead of Nazareth.

The Herons will be back on the links on Sept. 18-19, when they compete in the Empire 8 Invitational.
