MACEDON, N.Y.—William Smith senior Lauren Carlson finished third at the 36-hole Empire 8 Invitational this weekend. As a team, the Herons finished fifth in the six-team tournament.

At he par 71 Blue Heron Hills Golf Course, Carlson fired an 81 in the opening round, tying Nickie Calandra's program record for the lowest 18-hole score. Carlson closed out the weekend with an 88, seven strokes behind medalist Alexandra Battle of St. John Fisher and two strokes behind Nazareth's Michelle Van Slyke.

Senior Katrina Carey (109-98) was the second Heron in the clubhouse, placing 15th. Sophomore Trilbey Smith and first-years Lisa Vialle and Brynna Trumpetto finished 17th, 18th, and 19th, respectively.

The Herons will be back in action on Sept. 25-26, when they host the William Smith Invitational at the Clifton Springs Country Club.
