The William Smith College ice hockey team squares off with the nation's No. 1 team this weekend as they prepare for a home-and-home series with Elmira. First-year forward
Krista Federow was named to the ECAC Women's West honor roll by the league office this week.

Federow scored all three of the Herons' goals this weekend against No. 9 Oswego. On Saturday, she tied the game 1-1, 19 seconds after the Lakers took a 1-0 lead, 28 seconds into the game. Federow tucked the shot just inside the right post. In the second period, she gave the Herons a 2-1 lead. Federow collected a drop pass from
Dori Craig and wristed a shot over the goalie's glove. On Sunday, she was credited with the lone William Smith goal.

Federow, who has goals in three straight games and points in six of her last seven, leads the Herons offensively with 18 points (11 g, 7a). She ranks third in the conference in power-play goals (4) and shorthanded goals (2), fourth in first-year scoring (0.86 ppg), ninth in goals per game (0.52) and 16th in points per game. Federow also ranks fourth in the nation in short-handed goals and 10th in first-year scoring. Craig shares a team-high seven assists with Federow.
Catherine Linehan ranks third on the team with 7 points. All three of her goals have come on the power play and she ranks sixth in the ECAC West in power-play goals and 22nd in power-play points (4). First-years
Megan Messuri and
Maggie Salmon have split time between the pipes for William Smith. Messuri owns a 3.47 goals against average and a .924 save percentage. Salmon has seen a majority of the playing time recently starting in four straight games and five of the last six.

Elmira enters the weekend after notching a pair of victories over Buffalo State. The Soaring Eagles own the nation's No. 2 scoring offense. They are led offensively by two of the nation's top three scorers, Ashley Ryan and Ashton Hogan. Ryan leads the nation with 35 assists and 48 points. Hogan has notched a team-high 26 goals. Kyle Nelson has seen a majority of the action in goal for Elmira. She boasts a 1.78 goals against average and a .932 save percentage.

The Heron's will travel to Elmira on Friday, Feb. 13, for a 7 p.m. game. On Saturday, Feb. 4, William Smith and the Soaring Eagles will meet in The Cooler for an 8 p.m. contest.
