Friday afternoon, William Smith College senior
Caroline Conboy was named the Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association's Barbara Radef Award recipient. She is the first Heron to win the award since 2002 when Kelly VanGorden '02, a 2010 Heron Hall of Honor inductee, was the recipient.
Â
The Barbara Radef Award is given to a senior female swimmer or diver who has demonstrated outstanding athletic ability, met acceptable academic standards of her school, has outstanding performances at the conference level, and distinguished performance at a higher level of competition.
Â
Conboy, a psychology major, is a four-time All-American for the Herons. The William Smith record holder in the 50-yard breaststroke, the 100 breaststroke, the 200 breaststroke, the 100 individual medley, and the 200 IM, along with three relays, posted NCAA qualifying times in three of her four seasons as a Heron. Conboy won eight Liberty League Championships and four UNYSCSA championships during her career. She was the 2017 UNYSCSA Swimmer of the Meet and the 2015 Liberty League Championships Swimmer of the Meet.
Â
Conboy's captured her first All-American honors at the 2016 NCAA Championship meet, garnering first-team accolades for her eighth place finish in the 100 breaststroke and All-American honorable mention with a 16th place finish in the 200 breaststroke. At this year's national meet, Conboy earned All-American honorable mention honors in both the 100 breaststroke, with an 11th place finish, and the 200 breaststroke, finishing 12th.
Â
An accomplished student as well, Conboy has been named to the Liberty League All-Academic and UNYSCSA All-Academic teams in each of the past three seasons. Last year, she was named a College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-American. Conboy was a semifinalist for this year's Coach Wooden Citizenship Cup.
