Leffler breaks 2 pool records, Herons defeat Cazenovia and Wells

GENEVA, N.Y. — Senior Anna Leffler broke two Bristol Pool records to lead the William Smith College swimming and diving team to a pair of victories against Cazenovia and Wells this afternoon. The Herons defeated the Wildcats 166-79, and toppled the Express 166-74. Leffler broke records in the 200-yard backstroke and the 400-yard individual medley.

Leffler's first individual event was the 200 freestyle. She earned first place, finishing with a time of 1:57.99. In the 200 backstroke, Leffler touched the wall first at 2:09.43 to set the new pool record. Leffler finished the meet with a first place finish in the 400 IM, clocking in at 4:42.89.

The Herons won 11 of 14 events to secure the victory. William Smith started the meet with a win in the 400 medley relay. Junior Katie Neff, Leffler, sophomore Robin Kirchgessner, and first-year Avery Palma finished with a time of 4:19.45.

Kirchgessner earned first place points in three events. She won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:23.50. In her next event, she recorded a time of 5:57.69 in the 500 free. Kirchgessner wrapped up her day with a winning time of 1:03.46 in the 100 butterfly.

Sophomore Emily Mink won two events. In the 1,000 free, she touched the wall at 12:06.31, and recorded a time of 59.25 in the 100 free. Neff won the 100 backstroke, and Palma captured first place in the 50 free.

The Herons wrapped up the meet with a second place finish in the 200 freestyle relay. Junior Elizabeth Fajardo, first-year Isabel Lunken, senior Caroline Nash, and sophomore Olympia Canales stopped the clock at 2:00.68.

"This was a fantastic final home meet for our seniors," said Head Coach R.C. Weston. "I took time before the meet to talk to the team and to congratulate our three seniors on their careers. For them to go out the way that we did highlighted by Anna's two pool records was incredible. There is nothing better as a coach than to see them find success, supporting each other, and to have come together along the journey. We are ready for Liberty Leagues and for the future of Heron Swimming & Diving!"

William Smith will be back in the water Wednesday, February 19, for Day 1 of the Liberty League Swimming and Diving Championships in Ithaca, N.Y. Trials are scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
