GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College junior
Christina Mitrow was presented with two awards at the 2021 Heron Awards celebration. The basketball guard took home the Melissa Mulliken '80 Award and the Joseph N. Abraham Memorial Athletic Training Award.
The Mulliken Award is presented to a student-athlete whose team participation and leadership in intercollegiate athletics, combined with off-the-field endeavors, has led to the advancement of William Smith athletics. The Abraham Award recognizes a student-athlete who has persevered through injury.
Mitrow has appeared in 36 career games, averaging 10.3 minutes, 0.8 points, 1.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 0.7 steals. Her playing time has been limited by significant leg injuries. Mitrow produced a career-high six points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals against Clarkson in 2019. She was poised to start at point guard for the Herons this year, but the season was canceled due to the pandemic.
Since arriving on campus, Mitrow has helped the Herons to a 31-21 record with two Liberty League Tournament appearances.
A leader on and off the court, Mitrow is a two-year member of the basketball program's leadership group and is a representative to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. A chemistry major with a minor in economics, she is a member of the HWS Finance Society, a student-run organization that specializes in the financial and investment banking industries.
In the community, Mitrow has helped build playgrounds in the tri-state area for the Where Angels Play Foundation, which built 26 playgrounds to honor the 26 lives lost in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. The foundation continues its mission by building playgrounds in other communities touched by tragedy.
