GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College Head Baseball Coach Brad Cook recently announced the recipients of the team's annual awards. Junior second baseman Christian Petry is the 2025 Player of the Year, junior starting pitcher Teck Nash is the 2025 Pitcher of the Year and senior catcher Owen Sanders is the 2025 Coach's Award winner.

Petry started all 34 games he played this season, hitting .274 with a .475 on base percentage. He collected 32 hits on the year, including two doubles and a triple. Petry drove in 16 runs and scored 32 times. The very definition of a tough out, he found ways to get on base, including 20 walks and 25 hit-by-pitch. In fact, only one player in the country was hit by a pitch more per game than Petry. Once on base, he was a threat to run, swiping 21 bases, sixth in the league.

Petry produced six multi-hit games, including a 4-for-5 effort against Keuka. His final hit against the Wolves was a two-run, walkoff single that saw the Statesmen wipe out a four-run ninth inning deficit.

Nash, a third team All-Liberty League selection, started 10 games and ranked fifth in the league in innings pitched (64 2/3). His 0.84 walks per nine innings was best in the conference and fifth in the country, while he also led the league in strikeout-to-walk (6.17). Nash walked a league-low six batters. His command of the strike zone was so good that he only walked multiple batters in a game once, yielding two free passes to Rochester.

Nash struck out at least two batters in every appearance this season, including a season-high eight while allowing just one earned run over 7 2/3 innings against Ursinus. He threw a nine-inning complete game against St. Lawrence, allowing just five hits and one earned run in a 7-2 victory. Nash's effort against the Saints earned him the Liberty League Pitcher of the Week Award.

A third team All-Liberty League pick, Sanders started 22 of the 26 games he played in this year, his first as a regular starter. He hit .265 with two doubles and a home run. Sanders had 16 RBIs and scored 10 runs. He was third in the Liberty League, throwing out 12 would-be base stealers. Sanders ended his career having reached base safely in 15 consecutive games.

Sanders enjoyed one of his best games of the season at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a career-high four RBIs  at Skidmore. He had a two-run double and a two-run homer against the Thoroughbreds.

Hobart finished the season with a 18-17 overall record, the program's first winning season since returning to varsity status in 2023. The Statesmen were among the national leaders in double plays turned this season, averaging 1.11 per game, second in Division III. On the base paths, Hobart ranked ninth in the country in stolen bases per game (3.14).

Team awards are traditionally presented at the annual Block H Awards Dinner, but spring sport coaches are given the option to wait until their season is complete to make their team award selections.
