GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College Athletics Department celebrated the athletics and academic accomplishments of Heron student-athletes during the past year at the annual William Smith Athletics Awards Banquet tonight. Soccer forward
Julia Keogh earned the
Winn-Seeley Award, which is presented to an outstanding senior for achievements in service, leadership, athletics and academics.
The
Marion Harrison Greene '20 Award, which is presented to an outstanding senior athlete whose accomplishments made a significant impact on her team, was given to lacrosse midfielder
Payton McMahon and soccer forward
Sheila McQuillen. The
Cynthia Oyler '93 Award was presented to senior rower
Annie Wertheimer and the
Evaleen C. Harrison '19 Award was given to tennis senior
Maggie Bonomo.
A United Soccer Coaches First Team All-American, Keogh started in all 22 games this fall, helping William Smith reach the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament. She spearheaded William Smith's attack, leading the team and the Liberty League with 22 goals and 50 points, both Heron single-season records. The D3soccer.com Forward of the Year logged at least one goal in 16 of the 22 contests this year and had five multi-goal games. Keogh had six game-winning goals, including two in the NCAA tournament. She wrapped up the year eighth in the nation in goals and ninth in points.
Keogh was a four-year starter and finished her career with 101 points on 40 goals and 21 assists. She is sixth on the career goals list and seventh on the points list. Keogh is one of eight Herons to record 100 career points.
McMahon has started all 15 games in the midfield for the nationally-ranked lacrosse team. She has 42 points on 25 goals and 17 assists this season. A two-way midfielder, McMahon leads the team with 25 caused turnovers, is second with 32 ground balls and also has 42 draws. She has recorded at least two points in every single game this year.
A four-year starter, McMahon has played in 55 career games, recording 129 points on 84 goals and 45 assists. She is seventh on William Smith's all-time list with 115 draw controls and her 45 assists are 21st on the career list.
A United Soccer Coaches second team All-American, McQuillen started all 22 games for the Herons this fall. She was second on the team with 33 points on 11 goals and 11 assists. McQuillen had three points in the Herons' come-from-behind victory over Misericordia in the third round of the NCAA tournament.
A two-time All-Liberty League selection, McQuillen started 63 of the 88 games she played during her career. She complied 84 points on 29 goals and 26 assists. McQuillen was fifth on the all-time assists list and 13th on the all-time points list.
Wertheimer is a member of William Smith's varsity eight and has competed in five regattas. Rowing in seven seat, she helped William Smith finish fourth on Lake Quinsigamond last weekend. Wertheimer also helped the varsity eight finish second in Saratoga Springs this spring. She began her fall season helping the varsity four place 10th at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta. In March, she was named a NSCA College All-American S&C Athlete of the Year.
A three-year member of the varsity eight, Wertheimer was named a Pocock/CRCA All-American in 2021. She earned a bronze medal at the Liberty League Championships that year. During the 2019-20 season, Wertheimer broke the team's 2-kilometer and 5-kilometer erg testing times and has done it again this year.
Bonomo leads the tennis team, posting a 14-9 overall record in singles matches. She is 9-6 in the No. 1 spot this spring. Bonomo's biggest win came over Grinnell's Irene Augusti, who was the nation's 43rd ranked singles player. In Liberty League play, Bonomo is 4-2. She started her senior campaign, advancing to the championship match of the Mary Hosking Invitational back in September. Bonomo also plays No. 1 doubles for the Herons. She and junior
Audrey Camacho are 11-8.
A 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-America second team selection, Bonomo is 48-21 in singles matches during her career. She played at No. 1 the past three years, posting a 16-10 record at the top of the ladder. She was 15-4 in the No. 2 spot. In doubles play, Bonomo is 34-25, including 25-18 in the No. 1 spot.
