A four-time National Champion in lacrosse at Hobart, Marc Van Arsdale was a force on both the lacrosse field and in the classroom. A member of Phi Beta Kappa, the Druid Society, a recipient of an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, and graduating magna cum laude with a degree in history, Van Arsdale was an exemplary student-athlete. Van Arsdale collected four varsity letters in lacrosse along with many other accolades for his athletic success.
He captained the 1985 Division III National Champions, while earning first-team All-American honors, the Judge Thomas A. Kane Memorial Trophy, and the Francis L. "Babe" Kraus Award. Van Arsdale was also recognized as the MVP of the Championship games in 1983 and 1985. His junior season was also successful, earning second-team All-American honors, the Noel Filipino Award, the William H. Dobbin ’40 Award, and the Joseph N. Abraham Training Award. He finished his career as a Statesman among the top-ten statistical leaders in goals, assists, and scoring.
After graduating from Hobart, Van Arsdale pursued a career in lacrosse. In 1986 he became the assistant lacrosse coach at Nazareth. After one year with the Golden Flyers he left to be the assistant lacrosse and soccer coach for his alma mater. In 1991, he received a great opportunity to be a member of the storied Virginia Cavaliers lacrosse program. He joined the staff there until 1996, whereupon he took the head coaching position at the University of Pennsylvania. Following the 2000 season he was named the coach of the South All-Stars in the annual collegiate North-South All-Star Game. In July of 2001, he returned to the University of Virginia as Head Coach Dom Starsia’s top assistant.
