Hall of Fame
The father of Guy and Marc, William Van Arsdale served the Colleges as chief financial officer from 1973 through 1985. A Life Member of the Statesmen Athletic Association, he has been a generous supporter of the Colleges’ athletic programs and was a behind the scenes leader in the early growth of the Statesmen Athletic Association. "Van" was also a key figure in the growth and development of the Colleges’ athletics, intramural, and recreation programs in the ’70s and ’80s. He spearheaded the Colleges’ relocation of Boswell Field from Pulteney Street to its current location on Hamilton Street, and took the lead on the development of the Robert A. Bristol ’31 Field House.
Van was also a key figure in guiding Hobart athletics through the tumultuous transition between Athletics Director Bill Stiles’ death in 1979 through the hiring of current Athletics Director Mike Hanna in 1981—a time when he also led the searches for the hiring of a new head football coach (Jack Daniels) and head lacrosse coach (Dave Urick).
Along with longtime athletic trainer and Hall of Famer, Joe Abraham, Van fostered the development of summer programs and summer sports camps at the Colleges. After leaving Hobart and William Smith, he served as chief financial officer of Gettysburg College and the American University of Beirut.
