Hall of Fame
A two-time captain, Brad Richard was a four-year member of the Hobart hockey team. A defenseman, he patrolled the blue line, playing in 97 career games, recording 64 points on 22 goals and 42 assists. Richard earned All-ECAC West honors
four times during his career.
Richard made an instant impact on the lineup. As a first-year, he played in 24 games, recording three goals and 13 assists. He pocketed his first collegiate point, an assist and had seven shots against Geneseo, his third collegiate game. Richard went on to produce three multi-point games during his rookie campaign, including a three-assist game in a win over Manhattanville. He went on to earn a spot on the ECAC West All-Rookie Team and was fourth in the ECAC West in freshman scoring and fifth in defenseman scoring.
As a sophomore, Richard played in 26 games. He compiled four goals and 11 assists. Richard had a pair of multi-point games, including a goal and an assist in Hobart’s 5-2 win over No. 1 Oswego. It was Hobart’s second win over the top-ranked team in the country at the time. Richard went on to earn All-ECAC West second team praise.
Richard had his best statistical season during his junior year. He posted 11 goals and 11 assists on the year. Richard tallied a season-high four points on a goal and three assists against Manhattanville. He then recorded a pair of assists in the ECAC West Championship game, helping the Statesmen claim their second ECAC West Championship. Richard went on to earn All-ECAC West second team honors.
Richard played 20 games during his senior season, posting four goals and seven assists. He was named the ECAC Defensive Player of the Year, guiding a Hobart unit that ranked sixth in the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 1.86 goals per game. Richard went on to earn American Hockey Coaches Association East All-America second team honors.
Following graduation, Richard signed a professional deal with the Alaska Aces of the ECHL. During his rookie season with the Aces, he played 65 games, recording 32 points on seven goal and 25 assists. He earned a spot on the ECHL’s All-Rookie team and helped the team capture the Kelly Cup in 2014. In just his second pro game, Richard had two goals and an assist in a two-minute span. In 2014-15, Richard was loaned to the AHL’s Iowa Wild where he played 12 games and had a goal and an assist. During the 2015-16 season, Richard played for the Elmira Jackels and the Orlando Solar Bears in the ECHL. He played 108 games in the ECHL, notching 50 points on 14 goals and 36 assists.
