Potter was a four-year letterman in cross country and track and field and is one of the most accomplished runners in Hobart history. The two-time cross country team captain was just the second Statesman to compete in the NCAA Championship meet. He earned a spot on the national stage thanks to a ninth place finish in the regional championship meet at the University of Albany. A four-time recipient of the track team’s Walter F. Morton Trophy and three-time recipient of the Charles McCoy Cross Country Trophy, he is the only Hobart runner to win the Babe Kraus Award (1981).

Potter set a school record for 5.2 miles at the Seneca Lake Country Club, clocking in at 29 minutes, 19 seconds. He also set school and meet records in the 1,500 meters and 5,000 meters in the ICAC Championship meet at Alfred. The exceptional performance earned Potter the Henry Clune Award as the high-scorer of the meet.

Potter graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history. Following graduation, he moved to Fort Collins, Colo., to train and pursue his dream of competing on the regional and national levels.
