One of only two quarterbacks in Hobart history to throw for more than 6,000 career yards, Shawn Mizro ’07 became one of the best ever to put on a Hobart football uniform. During his time under center, he led the Statesmen to a 26-6 record as a starter and helped Hobart to a 32-10 record in his four seasons. Mizro was a part of three Liberty League Championships, including two as a starter.

A modest three games played and 11 passing yards as a first-year did little to foretell Mizro’s record-breaking sophomore season to come. In his first season as the starter, he threw for a Hobart record 2,253 yards while leading Hobart to a 9-2 record, the Liberty League Championship and an NCAA Playoff appearance. Mizro threw for 145 yards and two touchdowns in his first NCAA tournament game, a 35-16 win over Curry. He also set the Hobart season record for passing efficiency at 149.2, which ranked 13th in the nation, and touchdown passes with 30. He tied the single game record for TD passes with five against Union and matched that mark the following year against RPI. Mizro garnered All-Liberty League first team honors after his first year in charge of the Statesmen offense.

In 2005, Mizro again led Hobart to a 9-2 record as the Statesmen received an at-large bid to the NCAA Playoffs. He was 17-of-19 passing for 238 yards and three touchdowns in a win at Coast Guard, breaking the Hobart record for highest completion percentage in a game (89.5%). Mizro completed a Hobart record 31 passes for a career-high 428 yards at Union. He is one of only four Statesmen to throw for more than 400 yards in a single game. Mizro was voted to the All-Liberty League first team for a second straight season and earned All-ECAC Northwest honorable mention.

In his final season, Hobart went 8-2, earning another NCAA at-large bid. Mizro had at least one touchdown pass in eight of his 10 games that season, including a season-high three in a 21-14 win at Alfred. He was named to Don Hansen’s Football Gazette All-East team.

Mizro graduated with the Statesmen career records for pass attempts (826), pass completions (455), passing yards (6,097), passing TDs (61), and total offense yards (6,135).

At Hobart’s Block H Awards Dinner, Mizro was the co-recipient of the 2007 Francis L. “Babe” Kraus ’24 Award, presented to the most outstanding senior athlete. He also took home the 2007 Harter Family Award for his love of the game and outstanding will to win and the 2005 Middleton Award as offensive MVP.
