Thomas J. Schardt '78 was a four-year letterwinner in both lacrosse and football. Team captain of both sports as a senior in 1978, he is regarded as one of the best lacrosse defensemen in the country during his playing days. He was a three-time All-American selection, earning second-team honors as a sophomore on the 1976 national championship team. He garnered first-team recognition during Hobart's undefeated national championship run of 1977. He capped his career with first-team honors as a senior. He played in the North-South Lacrosse All-Star game his senior year. Schardt received the Babe Kraus Award (MVP of the senior class) in 1978 while collecting the Abraham Training Award and Most Improved Player Award for lacrosse in 1977. In football he was a devastating blocker from his offensive lineman position. He received the Douglas Palmer Burke Award (outstanding lineman) in 1976 and the George J. Barna Award (lineman, love of the game) in 1977.
