An economics major and four-year letter-winner in lacrosse, James F. Calder is decorated on both the collegiate and international levels. Garnering second-team All-American honors in 1978 and first-team accolades a year later, he was a member of the 1976 and 1977 NCAA Division II/III National Championship squads. A co-captain as a senior, Calder earned the Judge Kane Memorial Trophy presented to the team’s most valuable player. He also participated in the annual North-South All-Star game.

Calder’s resume on the international stage is equally impressive as a member of the 1978 Canadian World Championship team that beat the United States 17-16 in overtime. Inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame as a member of that team, he also was selected to the 1982 Canadian World Team.

After his playing days ended, Calder remained active in lacrosse as the program coordinator for the Ontario Lacrosse Association from 1981-83. The World Lacrosse Games Associate Director in 1986, he also served as the general manager for the Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union from 1986-1995.

A director and current vice president of the Statesmen Athletic Association, he is an active member of the SAA and the lacrosse community. A member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Lacrosse Foundation, he is the driving force behind the first International Lacrosse Federation-sanctioned world indoor lacrosse championship to be held next year in Canada.
