Dr. Frank P. Smith '36 played both basketball and lacrosse during his undergraduate days, but is considered to be the "Father of Squash" at Hobart. His passion for the sport of squash is second to none. He captained the U.S. Squash Team at the 1965 Lapham Cut-Grant Trophy against Canada. In 1979 he was a finalist in the 60+ age group and in 1986-87 was a national champion in the 70+ age group and was ranked No. 1. The former director of the National Intercollegiate Squash Racquets Association, he was inducted into the NISRA Hall of Fame in February 1994. He was a member of the Board of Trustees; served as a class agent at various times; alumni class correspondent; received the Alumni Association Citation in 1964; and was elected to Epsilon Pi Sigma and Phi Delta Sigma honorary societies.
