McCarthy garnered IWLCA All-America third team honors in 1994 and moved up to the first team in 1996. In her sophomore season, she logged 57 goals and 24 assists to rank third on the team with 81 points. She added 94 ground balls, helping the Herons to a 16-1 overall record. William Smith advanced to the NCAA tournament championship game. McCarthy finished her career with 201 goals and 73 assists for 274 career points.
