Young became the first Heron cross country runner to earn All-America honors, finishing 33rd at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships in Spokane, Wash., running a 5-kilometer time of 18 minutes, 40 seconds.
The race put an exclamation point on a exceptional season. Coming into the 2000 season no Heron had run a 5k time in less than 19 minutes. Young ran sub-19 minute times in 10 of her 11 races during the year. She was the top William Smith finisher in all of her 11 races. Young finished first in five races, second once, and third and fourth twice. She set a new school record four times during the season, including the current time of 18:07 she established at the NCAA Qualifier on Nov. 11.
