Afrooz was named to two All-America teams in 1993. He received second team recognition from the Sports Information Directors and third team honors from Don Hansen's Football Gazette. The defensive back was credited with more than 100 tackles that season (102). He was just the third Statesman to eclipse the century mark. Afrooz also produced a then-season record 15 tackles for loss, including 10 sacks, during his junior season. In pass coverage, he finished the year with 15 passes defended on 12 breakups and three interceptions.
