McCarthy garnered NSCAA All-America second team honors as a senior in 1995 and earned third team honors in her junior season. In 1995, She posted 17 points on five goalsa and ranked second on the team with seven assists. McCarthy helped the Herons to an 18-2-1 overall record and a 5-0-1 mark in the UCAA, advancing to the NCAA tournament championship round. As a junior, McCarthy ranked second on the team with 16 points on six goals and four assists. The Herons went 13-3-3 overall in 1994.
