A 2016 D3football.com All-America honorable mention, Sweeney was the first Hobart quarterback to earn a spot on a D3football.com All-America team. The 2016 ECAC North and Liberty League Offensive Player of the Year completed 60 percent of his passes for 3,436 yards and 36 touchdowns. He broke the Statesmen season records for completions (266), pass attempts (442), passing yards, and passing TDs.
