The two-time Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA) Women's Sailor of the Year, Carter skippered in A Division at the ICSA Women's Championship where she finished 16th. Carter also served as skipper in A Division at the MAISA Women's Championship, finishing fifth. Serving as skipper, she helped HWS win the Georgetown Team Race to open the spring season. In the fall, Carter helped William Smith win the Women's Showcase, finishing first in A Division. She was second in A Division at the MAISA Women's Fall Championship.
The first women's skipper All-American in program history, Carter skippered in A Division at the ICSA Women's Championship. The Herons took third in A Division and second as a team in the eastern semifinal to advance to the finals, where they won the A Division by 25 points on their way to a third place team finish. It was William Smith's best finish at the event in program history. Carter also competed in A Division as the Herons took second in the MAISA Spring Women's Regatta, earning the team title at the event. She also competed in the A Division at the Wick/Shrew, St. Mary's Women's and the Navy Spring Women's regattas this spring. In the fall, she led William Smith to a sixth place finish in the A Division at ACC Women's Championship.
Carter was named the 2018 MAISA Women's Sailor of the Year. She is also a three-time All-MAISA Women's Skipper selection.
