A defensive back, Newsome was named to the 1999 Hewlett Packard All-America third team. He tied the Hobart single season record for interceptions with nine picks in eight games. He finished with 25 total tackles, including a season-high eight (6 solo) in the season finale. Newsome also had six pass break-ups.
