A defensive end, Coleman was a three-time D3football.com All-American, winning the 2014 D3football.com Defensive Player of the Year award. He earned first team recognition in 2012 and 2014 and received honorable mention in 2013. Also in 2013, Coleman was an AFCA first team All-American.
In 2012, Coleman broke the Statesmen single game record for sacks with 4.5 at Utica. Five weeks later, Coleman eclipsed the Hobart game record for tackles for loss with five stops behind the line in against Union. The D3football.com East Region Defensive Player of the Year led the Liberty League with Hobart season records for sacks (17.5) and tackles for loss (30.5). Coleman was third in the nation in tackles for loss and fifth in sacks. He was second on the team with 67 tackles.
In 2013, Coleman had 56 tackles, a team-high 16.5 tackles for loss, a team-high 7.5 sacks, two pass breakups, and two forced fumbles. He broke the Hobart career sacks record at Springfield in Week 5.
In 2014, Coleman produced 28.5 tackles for loss, at least one in every game, and 13 sacks. He finished the season eighth in the nation in tackles for loss per game (2.1) and 15th in sacks (1.0). Coleman was fourth on the team in tackles with 55. His finest game of the season came at No. 4 Wesley when he broke the Hobart game record for tackles for loss with 6.0.
The three-time Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year and four-time Liberty League first team selection finished his career with 224 tackles, 94.5 tackles for loss, and 51 sacks. Coleman graduated second in the NCAA Division III records book in career sacks and third in career tackles for loss. He holds the Hobart game, season and career records for both tackles for loss and sacks.
